Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a job title commonly given to the person in an enterprise responsible for the information technology and computer systems that support enterprise goals. As information technology and systems have become more important, the CIO has come to be viewed in many organizations as a key contributor in formulating strategic goals.
Whether it be a large organization or a small to midsized operation, technology has become an underlying requirement for any business to efficiently streamline business activities, provide a faster turnaround time, increase profits and lower the overall cost of operations. However, for the technology to perform at its optimal level, the new IS organization requires a strong leadership and a clear vision in align with the business goals. The role of a CTO is reversed where 80% or more of his/her time is spent solely on technical issues and the remaining 20% or less on business. In small to mid-sized organizations, generally the role of a CIO/CTO is managed by a single person well versed in both business & technology.
